The Dana Centre event “An evening with James Watson", which was scheduled to take place at the Science Museum on Friday 19 October has been cancelled. The Science Museum has taken the decision to cancel this event in light of James Watson’s recent comments on race.
The Science Museum has released the following statement:
"We know that eminent scientists can sometimes say things that cause controversy and the Science Museum does not shy away from debating controversial topics.
However, the Science Museum feels that Nobel Prize winner James Watson¹s recent comments have gone beyond the point of acceptable debate and we are as a result cancelling his talk at the museum this Friday.
If people want to know about the science behind genetics and race, they can book onto other events looking at this at the Museum¹s Dana Centre over the next year."
If you would like to discuss the issues raised please do visit the Dana Centre online discussion boards.
We are sorry if you are inconvenienced by this cancellation.
