Here we detail some of our past game-based events, along with the types of evaluation undertaken.

Pub Quiz

21/10/03 - Theodore Bullfrog pub, Embankment.

The traditional pub quiz format was developed to capitalise on dialogue between and within the different teams of a pub quiz. Using science stories that had recently appeared in the news, the questions in this quiz focused on creating discussion rather than supplying black and white answers.

Types of evaluation used: in depth observation.

Stem cell research: what are the issues?

14/07/03 - Collaboration with the New Economics Foundation

The experimental event format, 'DEMOCS' used during this event was developed by the New Economics Foundation. The audience were divided into 5 groups of approximately 6 people, and each 'team' were given a game to play. The game itself seeks to create discussion by raising issues surrounding Stem Cell Research. Game play lasted for 90 minutes. At the end of the event all the groups were brought back together again to discuss the issues raised as a whole, lasting for a further 30 minutes.

Types of evaluation used: in depth observation, audience profile, focus group with a strand of the target audience.
