Are attitudes to nanotechnology the same the world over? Are there particular differences between the UK and US? Explore your views with international experts and decide whether we should follow America's lead or find our own nano-niche.
In 2002 the UK invested £30m in nanotechnology research, whereas the USA spent over £300m ($600m). Many applications of nanotechnology are more readily available in the United States than the UK, such as sunscreens, cosmetics and medical products. And the US Army is also funding nanotechnology research into military applications.
Attitudes toward nanotechnology seem to be more cautious in the UK than in the US. Why is this and is our caution justified? UK scientists and policymakers seem willing to engage the public on their opinions about nanotechnology. How do you think that the UK should develop nanotechnology, and at what pace?
