We invited four artists to come up with concept proposals that use the Dana Centre, conceptually, architecturally or technically, as a vehicle to unpack the process of science in a collaborative and participatory way that brings the public into contact with scientists through artistic interrogation.
The artists have spent 12 months researching, analysing and responding to the Dana Centre to produce their concept proposals. They have considered its mission to promote greater involvement in and understanding of contemporary science through debate, dialogue and other innovative participatory processes, and presented their ideas for meeting these aims through artistic intervention.
The artists will be presenting their ideas which comprise of the following concept proposals:
Blast Theory / You Are AfraidWe expect their proposals to provoke a vigorous debate on the position of science within culture and society. Do we still see art and science as two separate cultures? Can we find out more about science looking at it through the lens of different disciplines? Are you an artist if you donate your brain waves in the name of art?
This project has been supported by the Gulbenkian Foundation.
