Feelings and self-awareness are generated by consciousness but what does it really mean to be conscious or for that matter, unconscious? Is our mental status driven entirely by consciousness? How does our brain deal with different states of mind, such as sleep or hypnosis? How can hypnotherapy help overcome phobias or improve performance?

We recognise conscious awareness as a continuously unfolding, automatic sense of being alive, filled with flowing thoughts, language and memories. There is a vast array of scientific information about the structure and function of the brain, yet the biology of consciousness, the very essence of human nature, remains elusive. Drugs, head injury, delirium, dementia and coma alter our perception of the world around us and affect our consciousness. Can art or science reveal the secrets of our mind?

A hypnotherapist, an artist, a psychologist and a sleep researcher will share their thoughts and experiences with you. Hypnosis and tricks of the mind will be demonstrated.
