An unusually high number of people in the African-Caribbean community suffer from diabetes mellitus. Why should this be? And what can be done about it?
To help answer these questions, three specialists will lead discussions:
Jenne Dixit from Diabetes UK will talk about the many misconceptions surrounding diabetes. Is there special food for people with diabetes? Can you catch it?
Carol Gayle of King’s College Hospital’s Diabetes Centre will talk about the latest developments in diabetes management and what may be possible in the future.
Ruth Austin, who helps run a Caribbean diabetes support group in Willesden, will talk about the practical steps her group takes to manage diabetes where she lives.
There will also be a chance to swap tasty and healthy recipes.
