NESTA FameLab, the brainchild of the Cheltenham Science Festival and NESTA (the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts), is a national competition to discover the new voices of UK science and engineering.
Entrants have just three minutes to share their passion with an adult audience. Judges will select one finalist and one reserve from each regional heat to attend a media masterclass. Then in June’s grand final at the Cheltenham Science Festival, the seven regional winners will compete for £2000, an internship with Channel 4 and an international tour of live events.
Winner of FameLab 2005 Mark Lewney said: ‘It opened up a whole new world of possibilities for me, from talking to all kinds of audiences to writing to presenting – nobody was more surprised than me at getting through, let alone winning!’
NESTA FameLab 2007 is open to anyone over the age of 21 working in or studying science, engineering, technology or maths. All you need to do is turn up at one of the auditions, but if you register your interest at www.famelab.org/register you will get further details and updates as the competition progresses.
See www.famelab.org for entry criteria, details of all the regional heats and to register for updates.
