RFID is an important new technology for artists allowing the creation of local networks of objects.
The technology is currently used in retail situations, but the Takeaway Festival workshop offers the opportunity to explore RFID for its potential within more artistic endeavours.
The day consists of two workshops, tailored for a maximum of 30 designers or artists who want to learn more about RFID and how it can be used to create interactive objects for installations and interactive audio.
The workshop will guide participants through the technical and design processes required for RFID. Participants will make their own prototype of an RFID application, and find out how data can be retrieved using the unique digital ID possessed by each object tagged with an RFID chip.
Artists or designers who have intermediate knowledge of computers, hardware and software are welcome. Ideally, those who attend should already have completed an introductory course on the Arduino Board.
Please feel free to join us for a presentation following the evening workshop. This will showcase the work produced during both sessions. Experts will be on hand to discuss the potential for this technology and how it may be relevant to your work.
The Takeaway Festival of do-it-yourself media is a two-day extravaganza of talks, workshops and exhibitions, returning for the third time to the Dana Centre.
This workshop requires attendees to have completed an introductory course on Arduino technology. You will need to bring a laptop and your Arduino board
