Can one woman change the world? And what would drive her to do so?

Rachel Carson was a scientist, writer and ecologist. With her ground-breaking book Silent Spring she single-handedly challenged the US government and agrochemical industry. She was one of the first to propel environmental issues onto the political and social agenda, and her concerns are equally relevant today as the debate about pesticide use rages on. Rachel Carson died in 1964, but her ideas continue to inspire new generations to protect the living world.

’Breaking the Silence‘ is a one-person show, written and performed by Liz Rothschild. She portrays Rachel Carson’s personal and professional struggles and tells stories that she deliberately kept hidden in her lifetime.

Watch the play and reflect on the issues raised in this free performance at the Dana Centre.
