How does the human brain interpret art? Why does it even need to? Creative Community offers you an evening of talk, discussion and workshops on this theme.
Semir Zeki will explain how our brain makes sense of all the different experiences we encounter and builds concepts around them. Creativity can be defined as the way the brain reconstructs a concept when we produce a work of art.
Then you can meet ‘Tammy Wynette’. Well, why not? In Lois Weaver’s drama workshop, cast yourself in your own world of make-believe where you play the starring role. Dress up, have fun and get in touch with your alter ego.
Or liberate your imagination in Richard Thomas’s drawing workshop. Experiment with shades and patterns. The only limit is what you want to do. No previous skill required – but we bet you’ll surprise yourself!
Or discover how different types of music can profoundly affect the meaning of a film. Learn more about the theory, craft and process of film music composition. Then take part in the music workshop with Vasco Hexel from the Royal College of Music to 'spot' and create a score you think fits a film clip.
Following Professor Zeki’s talk on the brain and creativity, you will have the chance to go to one of the three workshops:
Drama
Drawing
Film music composition
Please arrive early to book a place for the workshop of your choice.
