What’s life like for people with facial diseases, injuries and disfigurement? Iain Hutchinson from Saving Faces will give us an insight and shed light on the problems they endure and how a face transplant could be a life-saver.
But to date there have only been six face transplants in the world, as it’s a hugely complex technical procedure. Find out why from surgeon Simon Holmes, who will take us through the intricate process of transplanting somebody’s face onto somebody else.
Having survived the surgery, how do people cope with a new face? The emotional and psychological impacts of the surgery can be just as traumatic as the surgery itself. How would you feel with somebody else’s face? Would your loved ones still respond to you in the same way? What would it be like to look in the mirror? Psychiatrist David Veale will talk us through the consequences of having a new face.
Come and hear the experts and debate the issues.
