Arduino
Alex Zivanovic
New to Arduino? Then this workshop is for you. Get an introduction to this microcontroller system aimed at artists and designers and see how you can use it in the field of physical computing to sense and control the physical world.
You must bring your own laptop (Windows, Mac or Linux) with the free Arduino software installed (www.arduino.cc). You will also need to bring an Arduino beginner’s kit including the Arduino Diecimila, solderless breadboard, jump wires and components. These can be purchased from www.arduino.cc and at other outlets. In order to attend the afternoon session you must have attended the morning session.
iPhone apps
Christian Benesch
Want to know how to develop software for iPhones? Then sign up for this workshop. You’ll produce a small application, Hello World, some simple display graphics and the more complex application Pong, which will take you through the different aspects of graphics, sound and user interaction. The workshop will also include a review of existing applications, how they work and what capabilities they use.
In order to attend this workshop you should have knowledge of object-oriented programming, ideally C, C++, Objective C or Java.
DIY getting video into Flash
Immo Blaese
Come and explore how to convert a video file of your choice into a Flash FLV file for delivery on the web using different formats and encoding setups. This will involve the use of default Flash components for a quick setup, an introduction to object-oriented programming and alternative working environments to Adobe for more complex deliveries such as custom-built players and handling of interactive features using cue points.
You must bring your own laptop with Flash CS4 installed (a trial version is available from the Adobe website) and a video file of your choice, ideally QuickTime.
Returning to the Dana Centre for a fourth year, this event is part of Takeaway Festival 2009 in collaboration with the Science Museum.
