Breath-analysing technology currently in development could one day help millions of people by diagnosing diseases such as cancer or schizophrenia. This offers the prospect of earlier detection of as many as 30 different conditions, leading to improved treatments.
So what are the limitations preventing this kind of quick and non-invasive diagnosis becoming a reality? What are the design and technology issues that will determine how small these new devices could be? One day could you carry one in your pocket? Are there some technological methods that are better than others?
This is your chance to find out more, and experience new audiovisual ways of presenting the information produced by this new diagnostic tool. The evening will include demonstrations of technologies that are years from reaching the market - so now’s your chance to influence those developments.
Prepare to be amazed at what the chemicals in your breath can reveal about you! For example, we will be demonstrating technology that can detect traces of explosives in the air and on your breath.
