Pain: invisible, elusive, dangerous, protective. Pain transforms body and mind sometimes to a state of desperation, yet once gone is hard to recall. But what exactly is it? Why is it so difficult to treat? And what does pain look like in the brain?

Dr Julie Keeble, a pharmacologist at King’s College London, investigates pain and inflammation. Professor Praveen Anand, Director of the Imperial College London Pain Centre, is working on new ways to treat pain. Oxford scientist and psychologist Dr Katja Wiech is exploring the power of the mind to relieve or aggravate pain.

Join our speakers to explore what pain is, what brain imaging can reveal about pain and the search for new treatments.
